Carol A. Hand
Moments connected through time help open up future possibilities
Beginning with vague ideas about a new way to teach a subject
Giving those ideas structures by planning an educational adventure
Developing assignments to actively engage students in liberatory learning

Encouraging critical reflection about existing knowledge and paradigms
Allowing students to work as teams to design their own creations
Building knowledge and skills step by step and strengthening connections
Watching as they move from complacency and self-doubt to self-respect and excitement

Knowing that the joy of discovery can happen anywhere in any time if we focus
on the things that matter most in life
Striving to express all of our gifts despite moments of self-doubt and fear
Working together despite dark times when all we hold dear is threatened
Concentrating on co-creating a future built on cherishing life, peace, compassion, and inclusion

Thank you for these thoughts this morning, Carol. I am reminded that teaching is life: a constant process, and I the willing student (at least most of the time!). I am grateful for the generous sharing of teachings from all of my relations. Last night we watched the wonderful movie “Neither Wolf Nor Dog” and I am put in mind of the admonition “Never refuse a gift.”

Thank you so much for your powerful honest comments, Rich. You inspired me to order a copy of the award-winning book, “Neither wolf nor dog.” I’m looking forward to the end of the semester when I will have time to read it.
