Carol A. Hand
A crispy leaf crackles on the crusty snow
As the west winds of the winter morning blow
Accompaniment to city traffic’s steady drone
As I sit drinking my first cup of coffee, thinking, alone
Photo: Sparkling Snow (Pixabay)
As the sun breaks through the clouds, transforming hardened snow
Into a field of rainbow sparkles on the blanketed earth below
My heart touched with hope that even on the darkest day
Gratitude will reveal blessings, an inexplicable inner peace to light the way

Really like the use of alteration in the first line of the poem crispy, crackles, crusty – made the scene come alive.

Thank you, Bernadette. Somehow, “a brittle brown leaf blowing on dirty snow” didn’t quite capture the moment 🙂

Your poem took me into its sweet embrace, kissed me lightly on the forehead, and whispered to me of the beauty of the tiniest of moments.
